BREAKING: Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan announces benefit concert for Highland Park mass shooting victims

Billy Corgan, lead singer, and songwriter for the Smashing Pumpkins announced Thursday that he and members of the Pumpkins family will be holding a benefit concert for the victims and families of the July 4 shooting in Highland Park during a parade.

Corgan has lived in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park for the last 20 years.

The American alt-rock group from Chicago has gone through many lineup changes since they formed in 1988, but Corgan’s announcement appeared to indicate that many members of the band, past and present, would participate.

The current lineup for the band includes Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and Jeff Schroeder. The band is currently planning their Spirits of Fire tour with Jane’s Addiction which begins in the fall in Dallas, Texas, and is scheduled to play Chicago on November 5 at the United Center.

The band recently announced the completion of their latest album.

On July 4, seven people were killed after a gunman opened fire on an Independence Day parade in Highland Park. The suspect, Robert Crimo, has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder, however, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said that he is likely to face further charges.

A GoFundMe was set up to help raise money for two-year-old Aiden McCarthy, who was left bloodied and alone after his parents were killed during the shooting has raised over $3 million.
