‘BANANA and ROCK’: Woke teacher trolled by 5th graders who say you can choose ‘anything’ for your pronoun

A group of middle school students pranked their teacher when she brought up discussions about gender pronouns during lecture, saying that they identify as inanimate objects like rocks.

In video obtained by Libs of TikTok, Ms. O’Dell, who teaches students in the 5th and 6th grade, explained the story in a post on TikTok to which she asked her followers for clarification on whether or not her students were pranking her after they told O’Dell that their pronouns were “banana” and “rock.”

“I really need your help here on this one,” O’Dell said in the video. “I’m a teacher. I teach 5th and 6th grade and this morning…somehow the concept of pronouns came up.”

“One of my students said, ‘Well, Ms. O’Dell. Did you even ask me my pronouns?’ And I was like ‘Whoa,’ I hadn’t actually asked him his pronouns. I called him a ‘him’ and I said, ‘Oh. I’m so sorry. I haven’t actually asked you what your pronouns are.’

Ms. O’Dell, who did not publicly announce where she teaches, said that when she asked the student for his preferred pronouns, the student responded, “banana and rock.”

“I was like ‘Dude, no! Don’t mess around with me.'” O’Dell said when responding to the student.

“I was actually really upset because I thought he was making fun of it. And, in fact, I’m still pretty sure he was making fun of it but they all agreed that ‘no’ you can choose anything,” she continued.

The students told her, “If you want banana and rock to be your pronoun, banana and rock is your pronoun.”

An extremely confused O’Dell concluded the video by asking her viewers if the students are being truthful about their preferred pronouns.

“Is it?” Ms. O’Dell said, asking viewers if the students pronouns are actually banana and rock. “TikTok tell me. Is it?”
